Terms and Agreements

Your Responsibilities:
  • You are responsible for keeping your password in strict confidence. Do not disclose or share it with anyone else.
  • You are responsible for the security of your computer and software environment and your password. If your password is lost or misplaced, you must advise the SIMC immediately so that a new password can be assigned.
  • You are responsible for ordering specialized formats of textbooks and core instructional materials for qualifying students in a timely manner.
  • You are responsible for ensuring that these materials are delivered to the students at the same time as their sighted peers receive their instructional print materials. This will require pre-planning on your part and attention to ordering these materials at least three to four months before the students need them. (Keep in mind that braille materials not yet produced can take up to a year or more to complete depending on the content.)
  • You are responsible for insuring that someone at the receiving school location will be available to receive specialized formats of textbooks and core instructional materials during the summer months and get them to the qualifying student in a timely manner.
  • You are responsible for educating qualifying students of proper care for specialized formats of books and materials. Excessive damage may result in the SIMC charging your district for replacement materials at face value (examples of excessive damage include but are not limited to: torn out pages, destroyed spines, removed covers, removed labels).
Eligibility Requirements:
  • Any K-12 student whose visual acuity, as determined by a competent authority, is 20/200 or less in the better eye with correcting lenses, or whose widest diameter of visual field subtends an angular distance no greater than 20 degrees, is eligible to receive specialized media from the SIMC Special considerations will be given at the discretion of the State Department of Education's Vision Consultant.
  • Braille materials can be ordered at any grade level. However, large print will not be provided to any student in lower than third grade as K-2 books are already considered large print.
